September heralds not only the return of fashion month, but also the announcement of Apple’s latest product lineup, which traditionally takes place in the first half of September. This year, the American tech brand has unveiled its 2024 lineup, and as usual, it’s packed with an array of new devices that have Apple fans vying to get their hands on. Held at its headquarters in Cupertino, California, the new offering includes the iPhone 16 series, AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4, Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Series 10.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The latest iPhone 16 Pro truly embodies this saying. This year, instead of introducing unnecessary frills, Apple hones in one the existing specifications and makes them better. The display gets a minor upgrade, with the iPhone 16 Pro featuring a 6.3-inch display and the 16 Pro Max a 6.9-inch display. Touted as its best iPhone displays ever, the new model boasts the thinnest borders that Apple has ever introduced. Apple also doubled down on quality with the Grade 5 titanium build — a material seen on some high-end watches — making it extraordinarily strong, impressively light, and more scratch-resistant than other forms of titanium.
It only makes sense that such a top-notch phone design is equipped with some of the greatest specifications, like A18 Pro chip, a new 16-core Neural Engine that powers Apple Intelligence — Apple’s answer to artificial intelligence. Design wise, the new iPhone 16 Pro and Pro max come in four stunning colours: white, black, natural and the new Desert.
iPhone 16 & 16 Plus
The iPhone 16 is equally impressive. Made with durability in mind, the iPhone 16 boasts an aerospace-grade aluminium enclosure and colour-infused glass on the back. The new model is also endowed with the latest-generation Ceramic Shield material, which is twice as tough as any smartphone glass. Besides having a decent appearance, the 2024 iteration is also a beauty with brains, packed with the incredible functions commonly found in camera, ChatGPT and electric vehicles. With a simple slide or a light press, we can easily adjust exposure, depth of field, zoom and other camera functions. Writing, recording and transcribing have now made easier, thanks to the ChatGPT-like Apple Intelligence. In case of an emergency, the iPhone has us covered with Crash Detection. All these handy features come with the offering of five vibrant colours, including Black, White, Pink, Teal and Ultramarine.
AirPods Pro 2 & AirPods 4
In the current digital era, earbuds with exceptional audio quality are no longer a luxury but a necessity. To up the ante, the behemoth has introduced AirPods Pro 2, a clinical-grade hearing aid laden with numerous health capabilities. The new auditory creation includes a clinically validated hearing test that allows users to check their hearing in just five minutes. Apple has also launched the AirPods 4, which are deemed the most comfortable AirPods Apple has ever created. The latest creation also sees a major improvement in audio quality, featuring immersive, theatre-like sound and Active Noise Cancellation.
Apple Watch Ultra 2 & Apple Watch Series 10
Apple Watch Ultra 2 and Apple Watch Series 10 also made their debut at the event. Catered to people from all walks of life, especially workout enthusiasts, the latest Apple Watch Ultra 2 boasts a legion of high-performing functions, including depth gauge for scuba, dual-frequency GPS, custom workouts, and automatic stroke detection. The tech conglomerate has also pushed the envelope with the Apple Watch Series 10, the thinnest Apple Watch with the biggest display ever. It comes with new health features specifically designed for people afflicted with sleep apnea, a disorder in which breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep.
