Louis Vuitton celebrates the work of Estúdio Campana

Art has always held a special place in the heart of Louis Vuitton. Case in point?  The reinterpretations of its iconic bags by various artists, from the Artycapucines reimagined by Jean-Michel Othoniel to the fabled Louis Vuitton x Yayoi Kusama speedy bag. To further unleash its inner artist, the French fashion house has held an unprecedented exhibition at the LV Dream.

As part of the Design Miami.Paris 2024, the exhibition, titled the Louis Vuitton Objets Nomades exhibition, celebrated the 40th anniversary of Estúdio Campana and the Objets Nomades collections, inspired by the art of travel — an ethos deeply ingrained in the DNA of Louis Vuitton. Since 2012, the Objets Nomades collections has showcased Louis Vuitton’s artistic convictions, shedding light on nonconformist creations that the French fashion house has dreamed up with industry heavyhitters. The latest creative pursuit also spotlighted the Maison’s long-standing collaboration with Estúdio Campana, the mastermind behind the iconic Vermelha Chair and KAWS Chair Pink.

To commemorate this important occasion, some of the most iconic works of Humberto Campana were put on display. It comprised the Bombaca (2017), Bulbo chair (2019), the Merengue seats with swirling leather petals (2022), and the free-hanging Maracatu cabinet (2012). The exhibition also revisited the Cocoon chair with six one-off new interpretations inspired by mythical figures of Brazilian folklore, all meticulously crafted by haute couture artisans. Additionally, the highlights of the exhibition included the Cabinet Kaléidoscope, composed of more than 500 colourful pieces of leather marquetry that demonstrated Louis Vuitton’s remarkable savoir-faire, and the Louis Vuitton apartment, which featured new Tableware collections and emblematic Louis Vuitton trunk.
