The time-transcending Gucci B Bag

The time-transcending Gucci B Bag

If there is any house that can refresh the old, it would be Gucci. To recap, the house artisans have generously bestowed modernised interpretations of classics like the Jackie, Horsebit, and Bamboo. Each of these hero bags has been strikingly Gucci in their own right and then emerged from the archives even more original, and in greater alignment with the luxury label’s current seasonal tastes.

The Gucci B Bag’s — another archival pull for the house — affinity with the house began as early as the mid-1950s. While refreshed for the Fall/Winter ’24 season, the B Bag retains much of its original character. It is still relaxed with its slouchy make and the maison’s equestrian alignment with its semi-circular saddle-inspired silhouette.

In a new suede monogrammed version, the crossbody mimics an aged effect that sells that “blast from the past” narrative. Of course, the bag has been graced with creative director de Sarno’s taste for the refined, through the addition of snap hook hardware and D-rings. Despite these updates, a bulk of its design remains steadfast to the original — which is telling of just how consistent and forward-thinking the house has been, even some 70 years back.
