Debuted in Berlin July last year, the Hugo Spring/Summer 2019 collection was showcased at a venue at Motowerk that was bedecked to look like rave party.
Entitled “Mixmasters”, the collection pays tribute to 90s rave scene where neon colours, cartoonish fashion and pacifiers are the calling cards of the subculture. Meanwhile, the creative energy and street style of Berlin serve as great inspiration for the modern-looking collection.
Blending the influence of mainstream and subculture, vintage checks and pinstripes are at odds with the bold, rave themed graphics, creating cool pieces that make a good alternative to summer dressing. In addition, technical-fabric shirts, Lycra cycling jerseys and suits are decorated with print mash-ups that take its cue from the 90s club posters.
In terms of colours, acid yellow, pale blue and chalky pink (the main shades on the Hugo Spring 2019 palette) juxtapose with the neutral tones to jazz up pieces such as the windbreakers, shirts, Lycra tracksuits and printed suits. Colour-blocking also makes a comeback at the runway, adding a bright accent to the subduedness in the collection, while modern Hugo logo brings modernity to the retro tracksuits.
The Hugo Spring/Summer 2019 collection is now available at Robinsons Kuala Lumpur at Shoppes at Four Seasons Place.
