Sure, Prada is still synonymous with the little black nylon backpack that it launched in the 1980s, but the brand had also created the successful offshoot, Prada Sport, in the late 1990s.
Since then, powerhouse designer Miuccia Prada has rarely taken a lunge at sportswear like she does for Spring/Summer 2017. It’s not just any sportswear the cerebral one concerns herself with – the looks are of hardy voyagers and vagabonds who outlived 2016, and can survive any crisis the new year might bring.
Prada’s adventurer is wearing large backpacks with pouches (as bag charms), cowboy-like toppers or pragmatic elastic headbands, and scuba boots or Teva-style sandals. Billowing nylon parkas, multi-coloured gilets, leggings, and cycle pants make up the rest of his active uniform.
Even with the message of utility, the brand’s trademark quirky prints make an appearance – this traveller’s patterned shirts, with illustrated elephants, sombreros, or watermelons, are his idea of tasteful souvenirs.
