On 14th February when the whole world was in love, Simon Porte Jacquemus put out a teaser announcement about a #NewJob he has coming and it left the entire fashion industry peaked with interest.
And finally he has dropped the bomb: Simon’s namesake label Jacquemus will be adding menswear collection into its repertoire.
When he first posted the teaser on Instagram (@jacquemus), many speculated possible venture into a number of brands including Céline and Versace. Simon says (in an interview with Vogue.com), “There were a lot of rumours… Everyone thought I was going to another house but I’m staying at my own. You can have a new job even if it’s at your own house.”
And in true Jacquemus fashion, the designer revealed the truth at the end of his Fall/Winter 2018 presentation at Paris Fashion Week, where he wore a beige sweatshirt printed with the statement, “New Job” and “L’Homme Jacquemus”.
Always one to have fun, Simon chose an unconventional way to make his announcement and as the new generation of tech-savvy consumer rises, he is right on point and had the buzz going for weeks!
According to Vogue, Simon will unveil his first men’s collection in the middle of the year, as part of Paris Men’s Fashion Week. The exact presentation format, date and venue has yet to be determined.
He says, “Everything comes from the heart with me, so I am going to discover myself as I design it. My woman was very naive when I started, and she became more sophisticated with time. The men’s is going to be same. It’ll be serious, even if I am not!”
