Ahead of the must-anticipated Gucci Cruise 2017 show in Westminster Abbey, London, creative director Alessandro Michele has gone ahead to reveal its Cruise 2017 menswear collection.
While nothing is made known about the coming womenswear show in London, Alessandro has released a lookbook of 87 looks for menswear that takes a nod of the designer’s great passion for England.
Captured by British photographer Nick Waplington, the collection takes us back to the golden era of bohemian chic in the late ’60s and early ’70s but, of course, added with Alessandro whimsical and modern sensibility that makes Gucci so covetable now.
Inspired by a country known for its eccentricity in fashion, the collection highlights more than just the expected bohemian silhouettes and aesthetics. Instead, dosages of bleached denim, combat boots and quirky embellishments add the much-needed flair and colour to the pieces.
From classic suits and outerwear to hip cat-printed sweaters and bee-stamped varsity jackets, we can see the many facades of British culture thrown into the mix, resulting in a chaotic, yet poetic and fashion-forward collection that is made to elevate the gentleman’s wardrobe.
While we loved the collection as a whole, our favourite is definitely its many quirky feline prints plastered throughout the knits and shirts, along with the tiger-printed bags (the signature touch of Alessandro’s orient fascination).
