With gloom surrounding the sky, hygge would be the light that leads us out of the darkness. In the case of Burberry, it is familiarity. “This season, I wanted to draw upon the familiar, the things that bring us comfort and strength. I returned to what first inspired me in the Burberry heritage house codes,” shares Riccardo Tisci.
Revisiting the rich archive of legacy, the Burberry Spring/Summer 2021 Pre-Collection sees the Italian creative director capturing the fashion house’s classics through the lens of modernity. Sophisticated chic meets street edge, historic elements including the check, iconic stripes and unicorn emblems are given a refreshing makeover, churning out looks that made for the present-day gentlemen.
Executed in relaxed silhouettes that are appropriate for our current times, Burberry’s signature Westminster Heritage Trench Coat is done in the style of Tisci, pairing with a forest green reconstructed hoodie with a scarf detail and drawcord shorts. Beige check makes a comeback in drawcord shorts and cashmere sweater in bright yellow, matched with a funnel-neck.
The collection is also informed with natural riches of England - the glorious antique gardens - which is visible in a black sweater and grey T-shirt playing host to English roses and Horseferry print. All these are complemented with the casualness of logo-print leather sandals and Arthur sneaker in gingham and Monogram print.
Along with the launch of the collection, a lookbook inspired by the outdoors and Burberry’s legacy of discovery is released. To give it a homey vibe, the luxury fashion house taps its own family including models, staffers and friends of the brand to animate the collection outside of their homes.
