The environmental revolution is well on its way and Gucci is leading major fashion houses towards sustainability with the follow-up of the next release of its Off The Grid collection. Aptly named Off The Grid Blue, the new drop is focused on the genderless accessories that comes in an intense blue indigo colour which to remind us to celebrate the vivid life in nature.
Just in case you forgot, Off The Grid is an extension of Gucci’s program Circular Lines, an ongoing initiative to implement a circular production that aims to reduce waste by reintroducing byproducts back in to the supply chain. Giving you a full-mini accessories wardrobe, the collection consists of duffle bags, backpacks, sneakers and small accessories like wallets, card case and pouch. Like its first release, each item is thoughtfully made using recycled, organic, bio-based or sustainably sourced materials like ECONYL.
For example, its iconic GG logo that’s stamped throughout the collection is made of 100% regenerated polymide and the Tennis 1977 sneaker has a similarly meticulous construction, with ECONYL uppers, recycled steel eyelets and organic cotton and viscose linings. There’s requisite backpack and weekender for luggage, whether you’re stowing overhead or just wearing it around your city that feature metal- and chrome-free leather trims and recycled brass hardware. Nothing is sacrificed to make the bags sustainable – even the sewing thread is made from recycled PET bottles.
The aesthetic is decidedly functional, but the vibrant colour shade still incorporates the flights of fancy the brand is beloved for. The collection comes in FSC-certified (the gold standard when it comes to sustainably sourced wood products) packaging, including a card that details information of the product as well as the story behind the project.
