The G-SHOCK G-STEEL Colour-Dial Series GBM-2100 marries aesthetics with the brand’s renowned toughness.
Labelling anything these days as unbreakable is quite the advertising gimmick, given the propensity of objects breaking down (cue: protectors for mobile phones and even watches). For Mr Kikuo Ibe, his mission of creating an unbreakable watch revolutionised the watch industry when the first G-SHOCK watch was unveiled in 1983. Since then, G-SHOCK has continued pushing the boundaries of toughness and is quite simply toughness personified.
41 years after the storied success of the brand, G-SHOCK has since established a cult following worldwide with various creations and coveted collaborations catering to a highly diverse crowd. While the physical attributes of toughness are well documented, a new form of toughness has been on the rise: mental resilience. The brand’s latest collection, the G-STEEL Colour-Dial Series GBM-2100 was aptly created as a reminder and motivator for all to push on and out-tough the challenges of daily life.
Instead of outfitting the watch solely in resin, G-SHOCK presented a fusion of stainless steel and bio-based resin for a refreshed aesthetic on the octagonal GBM-2100. The natural sheen of stainless steel lends the watch a dressier take, while its shock-resistant inner core ensures the timekeeping module is protected from accidental drops or knock-on impacts while worn. While steel is a hardy material by nature, its inherent physical properties mean it will pick up scratches and dents as it journeys through adventures with its wearer. Fret not, as each little damage is a story of a challenge overcome.
Stylistically, the collection is rendered in four different colourways in black, blue, and green. A fourth Singapore and Malaysia exclusive features a black PVD-coated stainless steel case paired with a black dial and contrasting white rubber strap. G-SHOCK’s solar power capabilities and Bluetooth connectivity allow for enhanced accuracy and reliability. As with most G-SHOCK watches, a Super Illuminator allows nighttime reading while phosphorescent-filled hour indices aid the cause more.
