After stopping in Manhattan, Paris, Malibu and Beijing, Anthony Vaccarello takes us to Venice for the Saint Laurent Men’s Spring/Summer 2022 collection. Set at Isola Della Certosa, a marina and lush public park, the show is backdropped by Green Lens, a large-scale installation created by American artist Doug Aitken. As expected, there are traces of things that we can attribute to the aesthetic of Vaccarello like the crystalline reflective interior and walk-on-water opening scene.

Shown on July 14th (the same day as International Non-Binary People’s Day), the gender-blurring influence is visible in Look 5, 6 and 54 while Look 5 conjures up costume of Carnival of Venice and Look 6 and 54 call to mind the pelisse from the Romantic Era. Van Dyke points can also be seen from Look 19 where they decorate the collar and sleeve, creating a subtle contrast for the all-white top. Elsewhere, there are signatures like chiffon blouse, pussy bow shirt, sheer top, skinny jeans and pleated trousers. Like his previous collections, it is predominantly monochromatic with a touch of vibrancy like cobalt blue, red, teal, purple and marigold where Miami style meets Renaissance influence.

Central to the preparation of every Saint Laurent’s fashion show and Green Lens inner reflection, all materials and equipment are rented or if produced are either reused, recycled or donated to support in particular artistic and cultural projects. All Greenhouse Gases (GhGs) emissions related to the event are offset through reforestation programmes particularly dedicated to Isola della Certosa garden, respecting its natural and original ecosystem through a consulting local environmental specialist.
