It’s the first Monday of May — which means that it’s the biggest day of the year for the fashion-obssessed, and for good reason. This year, see Stray Kids, Bright Vachirawit and Jennie Kim of Blackpink break the Internet with their Met Gala looks, alongside all the other fashionably-attired attendees.
The Met Gala festivities have formally begun, with the charity ball returning this year with the theme “The Garden of Time”, for the museum’s exhibition titled “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion”. And boy, did we awake. The weekend buzz had prepped us: there was hubbub that a certain K-pop group would appear at the 2024 Costume Institute Gala — which would have marked a first, FYI. And of course, rumours were swirling around all the potential archival looks that would make a return on the steps of the Met Museum. But everything came to a head when the clock struck 5:30 (EST, not MYT!), and as the attendees began swarming into the halls of the Met.
Stray Kids officially made history — again — with their 8-piece appearance at the Met. Dressed in Tommy Hilfiger (the brand) and arriving with Tommy Hilfiger (the man), Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. made their first-ever debut on the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, becoming the first K-pop act to ever do so. Meanwhile, Burberry ambassador Bright Vachirawit added yet another accolade to his achievements. Bright, too, made history as the first Thai actor and artist to attend the gala, in a Burberry georgette jacket and a gold mesh tank top. Jennie — of OddAtelier, Blackpink, and most recently, Gentle Monster fame — returned once again as the belle of the ball, this time in custom Alaïa.
