Since its introduction in 1870, the Hennessy X.O has held a special place among alcohol connoisseurs. Over the years, the French cognac maker has collaborated with leading figures of different industries — from fashion trailblazer Kim Jones to visionary artist Refik Anadol — to give the tour de force a new lease of life.

This year, Hennessy has tapped none other than Jean-Michel Othoniel, who is no stranger to the world of art. The revered French artist — known for his gigantic beaded sculptures — has exhibited at some of the most famous museums in the world, including Petit Palais, The Centre Pompidou, and Leeum Museum of Art. His captivating installation has also served as a crowd puller for prestigious venues like 1, Place Vendôme — an ultra-luxury hotel opened by Chopard. It is only natural that a mastermind of the same calibre reimagines a masterpiece like Hennessy X.O.

The latest team-up sees Othoniel instilling his magical touch, blending Hennessy’s time-honoured tradition with his artistic brilliance. Evoking translucent crystal rock, the Hennessy X.O Masterpiece is a pageantry of imagination. Encased in hand-carved oak wood, reminiscent of Hennessy’s iconic french oak barrels from either the Limousin or Tronçais regions, the decanter captures the contrast of rawness and elegance with a rough texture decoration and exquisite Baccarat crystal.

On the other hand, the Hennessy X.O Limited Edition showcases Jean- Michel Othoniel’s unbridled creativity. With only 150 pieces worldwide, the limited edition cognac is presented in a flagon cocooned in gold, adorned with intricate angles and facets that reflect light. The golden bottle is also an advocacy of sustainability, where its unique opening feature allows for bottle replacement and refilling.

With the latest collaboration, Jean-Michel Othoniel has turned a familiar object into a distinguished creation. Now, the iconic Hennessy X.O is reinterpreted with the fresh perspective of Jean Michel-Othoniel, giving its century-old heritage a new meaning.
