What do Dame Maggie Smith, Joan Didion and Vanessa Redgrave have in common? They have graced fashion campaigns in their later years. As diversity progresses, we see a rise in the demand for silver models in the fashion industry, be it fashion campaigns or fashion covers. Here in Malaysia, freelance model Dewa Axe has been making waves by fronting a legion of local campaigns for the likes of Zeve, Hikari Riders, and Mutha Puaka. Regardless of age, he perfectly embodies the saying, “Age is just a number”.

“To be honest, at the age of 49, I don’t feel like how I used to perceive someone at the age of 49 or 50 when I was 12 or 13. It turns out that I have reached the age of 49 without realising it. But I don’t feel like I’m 49. I’m still the young soul back then,” said Dewa about his age.

Hailing from the rainy city of Bogor, Indonesia, 45km away from Jakarta, Dewa used to live in Singapore for five years, where he pursued a Master’s degree in management. He then moved to Malaysia, found his other half and has settled down ever since. Currently working as a sales adviser at Harley Davidson Motor Supply Malaysia, Dewa is no stranger to the world of automobile — partly thanks to his Kustomfest ambassadorship, a custom motorcycle and car event in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Since he was young, Dewa grew up under the hefty influence of his brother, where he developed a fervent passion for automobiles. “I love classic motorcycles, classic cars and custom vehicles of that ilk. I also enjoy modifying cars and motorcycles. That’s my lifelong hobby, something I devote myself to. If you have a passion, if you have a hobby, life will be happier because you have a goal that you want to achieve.”

When it comes to committing to the unwavering love for automobiles, Dewa is not alone. A posse of motor enthusiasts shares the same passion as Dewa at PJ Breakfast Club, drawn to the freewheeling and adventurous spirit of motorcycling and heavyweight “hogs” (motorcycles) that stop passers-by on their tracks with their imposing stance and distinctive rumble.

“The PJ Breakfast Club is not a club. It’s a group that rides together at 7:30 a.m. every morning. We meet at Petronas Penchala and set off for breakfast around Petaling Jaya or Kuala Lumpur. We usually go for a short ride and hang out with like-minded people — motorheads from various backgrounds make up the PJ Breakfast Club. There are artistes like Noh Salleh and Naim Daniel, people from the art, advertising, design, aviation, healthcare, and accounting industries. Despite our diverse backgrounds, we unite through our love for motorcycles,” shares Dewa.
