#TheUnexpectedFind — JW Anderson’s Wellipets and Fendi Baguette

Pet and bread.

When it comes to creating buzzing moments, no one did it quite like Jonathan Anderson. The JW Anderson Spring/Summer 2023 show was a sandbox of his wild imagination where the wit-charged collection was furnished with Spongebob Squarepants-inspired costumes, bike handle props, skateboard-embellished mohair sweaters and miscellaneous objects that only existed in the world of Jonathan Anderson.

This Milan Fashion Week, the British designer continued to turn heads with its idiosyncratic footwear designs. Hopping from the anthurium bloom scape to animal kingdom, the Loewe creative director resurrected the 80s rain boots — the Wellipets. In the 1980s, the iconic frog rain boots were all the rage and even gained traction among the British royals where Princess Diana famously dressed Prince William and Harry in the kid-exclusive footwear. In the recent Autumn 2023 show, Jonathan Anderson gave the traditional Wellington boots a new twist with a low-top design made available for adults.

On the other hand, Fendi kept up with its accessory game with a range of new iterations for its signature creations. The Fendi Peekaboo got a new interpretation in the Fendi Shadow motif and crocodile print, whereas the Fendi Baguette was reimagined through a playful lens with multi-pocket, rhinestone embellishment and melange texture. And there was the new Fendi Baguette that had all eyes on it. Living up to its name, the baguette was literally a French loaf plush that brought whimsy to the otherwise restrained runway. Equipped with a zipper enclosure, the Fendi Baguette was an adorable prop for the Fendi bags and umbrella cover.

The Fendi Baguette called to mind Lemaire’s Croissant Bag. One of the ‘It’ bags coveted by fashion connoisseurs, the signature bag by Christophe Lemaire was a recreation of the hobo bag. It took inspiration from the French pastry where the former Hermès creative director decorated the classic bag with thicker straps and playful beige lining to replicate a croissant.
