On matters relating to love and its many constituents, we realise that it is not proximity or the amount of time we spend in each other’s embrace that determines who, or what falls within our purview of affection. In its various forms — of endearment, admiration, lust or even obsession — love in the present manifests in 4K quality wallpapers, subscribing to a new streaming service solely for one upcoming title to securing precious photocards in acrylic. In an era of content saturation, audiences are spoilt with options, possessing little incentive to stay tuned unless something truly remarkable comes along. For actor Jes Jespipat Tilapornputt, attributing his success to mere oneway affection from fans would be a disservice to his craft and those who appreciate artistry on their terms. Through his roles in wildly popular series like Dear My Secretary, The Lady and Her Lovers and 4Minutes, Jes’ devotion to his craft is palpable even through the 6-inch screens his fans watch him on. Dress in codes of timelessness — specifically Grand Seiko — Jes Jespipat talks to Men’s Folio about all things love, heartbreak, and letting go in the name of love.
Hey Jes, what is your love language?
Rather than limiting myself to just one way of showing and giving love, I’m passionate about making others happy and am open to all the ways I could make that happen. Being an actor, I consider myself lucky to be able to do something that makes others happy — my craft is where my love shines.
How do you show up for loved ones?
For me, actions speak louder than words. While I’m someone who rarely says “I love you” directly, I’m a firm believer in expressing my love through acts of service. Given that everyone has different capabilities and strengths, there are ways we can offer support. Happiness comes from being able to care for each other.

What is the most outrageous thing you have done for love?
Love oftentimes comes as a form of compromise. I have found myself sacrificing things I enjoyed in the past for the sake of love. However, I try to strike a balance in ways that let these decisions improve me and the relationship as a whole — rather than losing myself over letting go of my core values.
Have you ever had to learn to let go in the name of love?
Yes. To me, love means finding happiness in someone else’s happiness, even when their story does not include us. There’s a sense of reckoning in accepting that we must let go of things that do not belong to us. After we acknowledge that we have given our best, we move on.

What is good advice for heartbreak?
Engage in activities that bring you joy. While it’s common and human to feel demotivated during heartbreak, cultivate happiness through the same activities that have brought you happiness and circle back to acts of selflove. The thing about love is that it does not make us whole — whether we’re in a relationship or alone, feelings of sadness persist when you do not love yourself enough.
What is a lesson you learned in the process of loving someone?
More than just romantic relationships, this lesson applies to friendships too. To love again means being aware of the love you give and the love that comes your way. It begins with intention — when we love with purpose, we become more deliberate with our thoughts and actions so we do not repeat our mistakes from the past.

If you had to create a playlist for someone you love, what is one must-have song on this playlist?
Love Will Set You Free by Kodaline.
If you had to leave it all behind and only bring five things with you besides your phone and passport, what are they and why?
Well, since it’s my interview, I’m going to answer it my way. I will bring my favourite golf club, family, cherished pillow, water supply and pets. These are the essentials that will keep me sane. See, five things, right?

What is a guilty pleasure of yours?
I think I golf too much.
What is the most memorable gift that you have received from fans?
A golf club — just kidding! In all seriousness, the gifts I cherish the most are the handwritten cards from my fans. Each one expresses unique, heartfelt feelings, which are my motivation when I feel tired or discouraged. These letters remind us that there are people out there who appreciate our hard work and root for us through good and bad days.
